When news broke that Ed Sheeran was cancelling some of tour dates because he injured his arm in a bicycle accident, fans couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed. Now, however, Sheeran has revealed that he’s making good use of the time off…by writing new music!
During an interview on the UK’s The Russell Howard Hour on Thursday, Sheeran opened about what he’s been doing since he was told by his doctor that he couldn’t tour until his arm had healed, and it’s not sitting around and sulking.
“I’m actually writing songs,” Sheeran told the show’s host Russell Howard via Buzz.ie when asked if he itchy to write while on his break from the being on the road. “I was actually in the studio today writing songs.”
Instead of taking a breather and lying around waiting to get back to work, Sheeran has been putting all of his focus into another record, which is great news for fans of the “Shape of You” singer.
“I thought if I’m not going to be able to tour for a month, I might as well make the most of it. So, I have been writing songs,” he said, adding that he’s not working with instruments at the moment. “It’s been more like, ‘Can you play that chord please?’”
Even though the British singer can’t play the guitar right now, we are happy to hear that it hasn’t stopped him from writing and recording new tracks. Perhaps all of this time in the studio will give fans a new single sooner rather than later.
Either way, Sheeran getting back to songwriting is never a bad thing, even if it’s only because he isn’t currently touring.
