Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson might be the newest editions to The Voice family (Hudson for this season, and Clarkson for next season), but their roots are both in American Idol, and according to Hudson they’re forever linked.
On Monday (Oct. 30), Hudson posted a sweet message alongside a teaser of Clarkson’s appearance in the Knockout round of this season of The Voice, and revealed that if it wasn’t for the “Love So Soft” singer she wouldn’t have tried out for Idol.
“Watching @kellyclarkson win is what inspired me to take the same route!” Hudson wrote on social media. “Although I didn’t win, it’s amazing that we can still stand here together, represent and coach! @nbcthevoice.”
Hudson might’ve reached for her dreams thanks to Clarkson’s inspirational journey as the first American Idol winner, but Clarkson is a major fan of her as well, and it’s so cute.
“You’re winning in life @IAMJHUD 🎉🎉🎉 I ain’t got no Oscar girl, you do! You’re such a talent,” Clarkson tweeted in reply to Hudson’s touching note, adding that it was an “honor” for her to hang with the actress/singer.
While the singers won’t be coaches together, you can see Clarkson alongside Hudson as a guest advisor this week on The Voice. Plus, you can see Clarkson all next season as a coach!
