Drake might be a force to be reckoned with when it comes to the music world, but he did get his start in acting, and he’s ready to go back… when the right project comes along.
As many fans know, Drake first broke into the entertainment scene when he starred on Degrassi: The Next Generation from 2001 to 2009. Now he’s become a major recording artist, releasing four albums, and touring all over the world. That, however, doesn’t mean that going back to his acting roots and breaking into film aren’t on his radar.
In fact, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Drake opened up about his plans to focus on acting (in both movies and on television) sooner rather than later.
“I’m sure I’ll stop [making music] one day. When it starts to feel like I’m making it up. Hopefully I’ll catch it before I ever get there, right?” Drake told The Hollywood Reporter. “But right now it feels like we just started, so I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.”
While the “Hotline Bling” singer doesn’t want to stop rapping and performing, he does want to expand his portfolio and dabble in film acting and producing in the near future.
“But I do plan on expanding — to take six months or a year to myself and do some great films,” he explained. “Music’s always there.”
When the Canadian singer does go back in front of the camera, he wants to wow people. “When I get back into acting, I want to do things that make people go, ‘Wow, I didn’t expect that,’” he added.
According to the publication, Drake is already really pursing his acting career by teaming up with Netflix for the crime series Top Boy, which is slated for a 2019 debut, and will have Drake as an executive producer on the project.
What do you think about Drake moving back into the acting world, are you ready to see him on screen again?
