Oprah Winfrey is a big fan of Queen Sugar, and it’s not just because the series is on her OWN network, or because she is listed as an executive producer.
With season 2 of Queen Sugar almost over (the season finale airs next week), Oprah is opening up about how she couldn’t be more proud of the series, which follows the lives of three siblings as they move to Louisiana, claim an inheritance from their father, and begin running a sugarcane farm is
“I just saw the final episode of Queen Sugar, which is, I must say, one of the finest seasons I have ever experienced for a TV show and I would be saying that if it wasn’t my own, and if it wasn’t my own I probably wouldn’t be watching it,” Oprah told Extra on the red carpet for the show’s finale episode.
Queen Sugar was created by Ava DuVernay, who Oprah considers a true friend saying, “It isn’t often that you find a friend that wants the best for you, and you want the best for them… I knew this was going to happen with Ava.”
It stars Rutina Wesley (as Nova Bordelon), Dawn-Lyen Gardner (as Charley Bordelon West), and Kofi Siriboe (as Ralph Angel Bordelon), who are the three main characters and siblings on the series. After debuting in 2016, the series has done well for OWN and is already slated for a season 3 in 2018.
Check out the season 2 finale of Queen Sugar on November 15, 2017 at 10 p.m. on OWN.
