Shawn Mendes probably won’t be touring in 2018, but there’s a good reason… he’s working on his next album!
Last week, Mendes was at the 2017 MTV EMAs in England, and although he was busy celebrating three wins — he won Best Artist, Biggest Fans Award, and Best Song for “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” — he found time to talk a little bit about Album 3 (which his next record is currently being called), and we’re getting so excited about it.
While on the red carpet, Mendes spoke with NME about his plans for next year, and all of his focus is definitely on his next record.
“I’ve been working on my next album, album three,” Mendes told NME at the award show. “We spent a month in Los Angeles. We’ve gone all in and are just going to see what comes out.”
As for what fans can expect from the next album, the Canadian singer was a little vague with his answer, but he did make it clear that he is ready to try new things this time around.
“I think people will be surprised, but I’m not sure about the sound yet,” he explained. “I’m still exploring and trying to figure myself out. Anything is possible.”
Even though Mendes doesn’t have the sound nailed down for his upcoming record, he has already been teasing the vibe for it on Twitter as well as telling his fans that he’s been a little busy working on it to interact with them on social media.
All of these things are good news for those who love listening to the “Mercy” singer. Here’s hoping we hear new tracks from the young artist sooner rather than later!
