Barbra Streisand is a musical legend, but if you’re thinking about seeing her on tour someday, you’re going to be waiting a long time.
During a recent interview with Billboard to talk about her new special, Barbra: The Music… The Mem’ries… The Magic!, the singer and actress opened up about the fact that touring just isn’t her thing, and honestly she’d rather never get on stage again… at least in a tour setting.
“No I would never do another show. It’s exhausting. I’m not ever going to sit down and plan another show like I had to do with this one,” Streisand told Billboard when talking about her new special, which she recorded while on tour in Miami last year. “I never say never,” she added, giving us all a little bit of hope.
When asked a little bit more about her dislike of touring, and whether or not she’d really walk away again — she didn’t tour for 27 years starting in 1967 after she forgot words to her song on stage — she stuck to her guns and was pretty adamant about her stand on no longer touring.
“No. No. I know. I can’t. It’s just too vulnerable. It’s too hard for me. I wish I loved it. There are so many performers who perform practically the whole year, you know, 200 or 300 days a year. They love it. And I wish I felt that way,” she explained.
Streisand just isn’t a singer who loves the live aspect of the job, instead she gets anxiety about doing shows, and would rather sing on an album, or in a movie.
“It would be great [to love to tour] because it’s very lucrative but I can’t do it,” she added. “It’s just too hard. I think about what I eat after the show. You know, I plan the meals after the show so I could be free of anxiety.”
While her fans are definitely going to miss seeing her live, you can still see Streisand in all her glory in her upcoming special.
Barbra Streisand: The Music… The Mem’ries… The Magic! airs on Netflix beginning November 22, 2017.
