Shawn Mendes has had a big 2017. He went on his Illuminate World Tour, released the single, “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back,” and became the first artist under 20 to have three number one songs on Billboard’s Adult Pop Songs Chart.

Now however, Mendes is already looking ahead to 2018 and has a big goal in mind — and hopefully a new record to release as well.

“Next year I want to do a lot of festivals and you know, bigger shows to more of a wide-spread audience,” Mendes told the hosts of the Zach Sang Show backstage at the 2017 American Music Awards. “So, I’m hoping to be able to create music that allows me to do it.”

The Canadian singer already sold out Rock in Rio 2017 when he performed at the massive concert series, so clearly he is on his way to being a festival and big venue performer, and that’s all thanks to his diverse music.

“The music is definitely wide spread, that’s for sure,” Mendes added about what he’s done so far in his career. The “Treat You Better” singer has done a lot in his short career, and has made a big name for himself at the young age of 19 years old, and from the sounds of it, he’s only getting started.

In addition to being able to watch Mendes perform at festivals and massive arenas next year, there’s a good chance Album 3 — or at least a single or two from it — will also be heading our way come 2018, so it’s going to be a good year for Mendes fans.
