Ed Sheeran has always been modest about his talent, and it’s just another reason to love the British crooner.
On Thursday (Dec. 7), the “Shape of You” singer received the high honor of an MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) at Buckingham Palace in London. After Prince Charles awarded him the medal, Sheeran opened up about how his success is not a result of his talent alone.
“I think it’s persistence. I don’t have a vast amount of talent compared to other people,” Sheeran told reporters while speaking at the palace the Daily Mail reported.
Despite the fact that the fans and critics continually think that Sheeran is beyond talented having won awards like Song of the Year at the Grammys and British Artist of the Year at the BBC Music Awards — and having all three of his album hit number one on the UK Album Chart — the red-haired singer isn’t convinced that his songwriting and singing skills are what have made him great.
“I think talent is like 30 percent of it and persistence, drive and self-belief are the other ones, which I guess are all the same thing,” he noted.
Oh Ed, you’re too modest! Even though we think that Sheeran is one talented guy, his persistence is definitely admirable, and does have a lot to do with his eventual success in the music industry, so bravo.
