If you thought there’d be a second Psych: The Movie down the line, then your instincts are spot on.
After eight seasons of Shawn Spencer (James Roday) and Burton “Gus” Guster (Dulé Hill) solving crimes together in Santa Barbara, Psych creator Steve Franks made sure that the series finale left room for a comeback. Now, after debuting its first TV movie from the cast, Franks plans to make more, and more, and more.
“…. I kind of want the [Psych] movies to pivot into action-comedy where you can do something that feels like a feature movie and not just two episodes of Psych put together,” Franks told Entertainment Weekly about the idea of six films for the Psych franchise not just one.
When it comes to another Psych movie, Franks already has a few ideas, the first one being adding in deleted scenes from this film — that was set in Santa Barbara — and the second one being that there is a lot more Lassie.
“There’s some great, great stuff that took place in Santa Barbara, and movie two is certainly going to utilize some of those bits. The entire scenes, word-for-word, will be in the second movie,” Franks said about the location of movie number two.
As for Detective Carlton Lassiter aka Lassie, played by Timothy Omudson — who had a stroke a month before the cast got back together to film its 2017 TV movie — if a second film does happen, it will show a lot more of him.
“The idea is that the second one would be the one that we would do to fully have everybody back together in the same room at the same time,” he added.
For Psych fans this really is something they’ve always dreamt about, and if the Psych-Os get their way, there will definitely be more from Shawn, Gus, Lassie and the rest of the hilarious cast for years to come!
