Shawn Mendes might be one of the most successful young artists right now, but that doesn’t mean he’s not ready for a challenge and to make himself even better.
In fact, during a backstage interview at the 2017 American Music Awards with the Zach Sang Show, the Canadian singer opened up about his upcoming album, noting that it’s all about challenge himself personally and professionally.
“Just challenging myself in general to make the next step of me. It’s really hard, you find what people like and you’re like, should I do that again or should I try and come up with the better thing,” Mendes told the show’s hosts at the AMAs. “It has to be somewhere in the middle.”
As for whether or not the “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” singer has a story in mind for the next record, you’ll just have to wait and see.
“You’ll have to wait for the album, I can’t give away the stories of the album,” Mendes said before revealed that he already has a bunch of songs done. “We have like 25 songs, so ya, we have tons and I’m hoping to get another 25 at least.”
50 songs to choose from? That’s going to be hard, especially for Mendes who seems to be a bit of perfectionist when it comes to his music. That, however, can only be a good thing for fans who’ve come to expect greatness from the 19-year-old singer.
