While the rest of us were getting into the holiday spirit last week, Riverdale creator, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, was getting into the dark and twisted spirit that surrounds his Riverdale spinoff series focused on Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

Even though we all know that Aguirre-Sacasa can go dark based on season 2 of Riverdale and the Black Hood villain, from the looks of the first concept image from The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (which is its official title) it’s going to be even darker.

As you might know, the Riverdale spinoff series was picked up by Netflix and not The CW, but it is still being created by Aguirre-Sacasa and it’s so eerie — at least based on this first look.

“First concept art for #sabrina is coming in and looks FANTASTIC & chilling. Thrilled to be working with @Malicebot,” Aguirre-Sacasa tweeted last week along with a haunting sketch for the new series.

If you look closely, through the flames and haunting trees, you can see Sabrina, and she looks dark, scary and witchy to the extreme. Sure, we all know that Sabrina Spellman was a teenage witch, but this series is going to be far from the Melissa Joan Hart version we all remember. It will be based on the comics, which was all about Satanic worship and the intense art of witchcraft.

Plus, if this image is any indication of what we can expect, Sabrina isn’t going to be a blonde, bubbly goofball like the ‘90s series.  She will definitely be channeling her dark side — and we’re so ready for it.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina doesn’t have an air date yet, according to TV Guide, but it has been picked up for 10 episodes by Netflix!
