If there is one thing Grey’s Anatomy fans can all agree on, it’s the fact that Meredith Grey has been through a lot over the past 14 years. Now, the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital doctor (played by Ellen Pompeo) might be getting a second chance at love, and it’s about time!
After a lot of drama and heartbreak for the ABC series’ leading lady, fans would like to see Meredith happy and back in love, even if that means moving on from losing Derek (aka McDreamy) once and for all. The good news is that, according to this season’s showrunner, that is always on the table.
“What is next for Meredith in terms of a love life remains to be seen. I believe that romance and love are always a possibility, especially after we’ve lost the loves of our life. We have to evolve out of our immediate grief,” showrunner Krista Vernoff told Entertainment Weekly.
Although Vernoff didn’t say when Meredith would find love, or what “finding love” even looks like for the doctor, she did say that her journey is real and raw, and it’s not over just yet.
“I believe that immediate grief takes more than a couple of years. I don’t want to ever short-shrift the people who have gone through the death of a spouse and say you just move on, or you just move on with the first person,” she explained to the publication.
Meredith had a great loss and we’ve seen her struggle through moving on from it and beginning to open back up — which of course crashed and burned with Nathan — so now perhaps she can fully love again… with the right guy.
“One of the things that I love that we do on the show is show this very human journey,” she said before adding that “Love is possible for Meredith 100 percent, but it’s not her focal point,” and that’s totally okay with us.
