Margot Robbie is quite the chameleon on screen, having portrayed a variety of iconic characters in her career like Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, war photographer Tanya Vanderpoel in Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, and most recently Tonya Harding in I, Tonya. And with all of that on camera success under her belt, Robbie is now ready for a new challenge… directing.
As ELLE’s February cover girl, the Australian actress opened up about her next career goal as a director, and with so much film experience as an actress, coupled with her determination to be a part of the business on a different level, she’s bound to succeed.
“I still love acting,” Robbie told ELLE when asked about her desire to direct. “But I’ve spent the last 10 years on a film set, and I realized that if I am pouring my heart and soul into a film, I want to be one of those voices in the conversation making decisions.”
While making decisions will definitely come with the territory as a director, Robbie isn’t going to stop acting all together. In fact, she already has four new films in either post-production or the completed stages set to be released in the next year or so.
In the meantime, Robbie also revealed that there is one semi-random skill that she wants to master, and it makes the young star even more interesting.
“I recently bought fire-twirling poles, because I really want to get good at it,” she told the publication. “When I was backpacking in the Philippines, there were heaps of fire twirlers on the beach, and it was so cool. I was like, ‘Wow, I really want to do that!’”
Sounds like a good idea for a movie… one that Robbie could both direct and star in!
