The Good Doctor has returned from its winter break, and in addition to seeing what Dr. Shaun Murphy (played by Freddie Highmore) is up to now, fans will be meeting a new resident before the season comes to an end.
Fiona Gubelmann will be joining the cast for a five-episode arc with the potential to become a series regular in season 2, Deadline reported, and it’s really exciting for fans as well as the actress herself.
“THRILLED to finally be able to share the news!! Words can’t express the joy I feel to be joining such a fantastic show & lovely group of people,” Gubelmann tweeted after the news of her casting broke. “It’s always a dream to get to be a part of a project that you’re a huge fan of!! @GoodDoctorABC.”
Gubelmann, who was recently on Daytime Divas, will play a new resident named Morgan later this season. According to Deadline, Morgan is funny and charming and while she embraces life fully, she is pretty cutthroat and provides even more competition for the residents — which they don’t really need, but we can’t wait to see unfold.
Although The Good Doctor has yet to be officially renewed for a second season, it has been picked up for a full-season one order, and we hope to see Gubelmann back in season 2 alongside Highmore, Anotonia Thomas (who plays Dr. Claire Browne) and Chuku Modu (who plays Dr. Jared Kalu), if and when it gets picked up.
The Good Doctor airs on Mondays at 10 p.m. on ABC.
