The Oscars are a little over a month away, and we finally have our first promo for the 90th Academy Awards show. Jimmy Kimmel will be hosting the legendary show once again, and luckily for all of us fans, that means lots of laughs from the comedian, beginning with the first promo.
On Tuesday (Jan. 23), after the Oscar nominations were announced, the network released its first promo clip, featuring Kimmel and it was all about #envelopegate. The whole clip is related to last year’s envelope mix up and it’s hilarious.
In case you forgot – or simply tried to forget – when the Best Picture award was being handed out last year, the envelope said “La La Land” on it, but it was in fact Moonlight which won. It was a big ordeal and Kimmel can’t stop thinking about it.
Throughout the tease he is talking to someone — perhaps a therapist — and confesses that he can’t live it down. He panics when he gets the mail, because, you know, there are so many envelopes. He burns his tuxedo that he wore while hosting, and yells at baristas when they get his name wrong.
The whole thing is funny, but when you finally see that the man he is spilling his guts to is in fact Warren Beatty – the actor who presented the award for Best Picture, alongside Faye Dunaway, and therefore was part of the big mix-up – it’s too good.
“I don’t care what you do, just get out of my house,” Beatty says, before Kimmel awkwardly realizes the show must go on! Although it was a fiasco last year during the biggest award moment of the night, we have a feeling Kimmel will make us all laugh about it to kick off the 2018 show, and the rest will go seamlessly.
The 90th Academy Awards airs on Sunday, March 4, at 8 p.m. on ABC.
