Attention Big Little Lies fans: we have a big casting announcement… Meryl Streep is joining the cast next season. Yes, MERYL STREEP is joining the powerful female ensemble cast and we couldn’t be more exited about it.
Reese Witherspoon previously teased that “everyone” seemed to want to be a part of the successful HBO series for its next season, but Meryl Streep? This is totally unexpected, and a big deal, so get ready.
“Beyond thrilled to have the one, the only, Meryl Streep joining the cast of #BLL for season 2,” Witherspoon, who not only stars on the show, but is a producer on it, shared on Instagram on Wednesday. “Get ready for more wine, secrets, and #BigLittleLies. Monterey better watch out!!!”
So who will the Oscar and Emmy winning actress be playing when Big Little Lies returns? According to The Hollywood Reporter, Streep will be portraying Mary Louis Wright, who is the mother of Perry Wright (Alexander Skarsgard) aka Celeste Wright’s (Nicole Kidman) abusive husband.
While fans might already know that Skarsgard is set to return to the series – at least in some capacity – when he’s not on the show, due to a major plot twist at the end of the first season, his mother will be.
Streep’s character is described as a grandmother concerned for her grandchildren following a massive life change and tragedy, which if you’ve watched the drama series, you know exactly what we’re talking about. When she arrives in Monterey she’ll be looking for answers, and we’re sure that will mean a few interesting altercations with her daughter-in-law along the way, and we’re ready for it.
What do you think about Streep joining the already fierce female cast? Are you ready for another season of Big Little Lies?
Big Little Lies returns for its second season sometime in 2018 on HBO.
