The last time we saw Christina Aguilera in a movie — besides when she voiced Akiko Glitter in The Emoji Movie — was in 2015 when she briefly appeared at the end of Pitch Perfect 2. Luckily, Aguilera will soon be back on the big screen, but her role is a bit of a mystery.
As pointed out on Twitter by entertainment expert Jarett Wieselman, the former Voice coach — who has had big film roles in the past like Ali in Burlesque — is set to make an appearance in the upcoming Melissa McCarthy comedy Life of the Party.
While we don’t know how much of Aguilera we’ll see in the film, we do know that she will be playing herself in the comedy, which let’s face it, is our favorite version of the singer. As for what the movie is about? We’ve got you covered.
Life of the Party follows a newly single housewife Deanna (McCarthy), who realizes that she wishes she’d finished college. In order to right this wrong she goes back to school at the same university that her daughter is attending and goes all in on the college experience.
Even though Aguilera’s appearance isn’t teased in the first trailer for the comedy, we’re sure her moment (or moments) in the movie will be great.
That being said, we’re hoping the singer pops up as a performer at frat party, or perhaps a new friend of McCarthy’s character while meeting on campus in some absurd way. Either way seeing Aguilera in a comedy that is all about McCarthy and her new college life is bound to be funny.
Life of the Party is set to hit theaters on May 11, 2018.
