In October 2017, Kelly Clarkson released her eighth studio album, Meaning of Life, and even though you might’ve listened to the entire record a million times by now, the singer has just released her second single from it, and it has a really deep meaning.
“Y’all I’m so excited to announce the 2nd single from Meaning of Life is going to be I Don’t Think About You,” Clarkson tweeted on Friday (Feb. 9).
The tweet also features a really unique look behind-the-scenes of The Voice coach recording the track, as well as her honest opinion on what “I Don’t Think About You” means and how it got started.
“‘I Don’t Think About You’ is the ballad that I totally could’ve written,” Clarkson says in the beginning of the video. “I had a conversation with the writers on that song, especially Jessica, because I had talked to her in several different writing things, and it ended up being the song, I really wanted a ballad that I could sing, but I wanted it to be emotional and I wanted it to be an empowering song.”
The “Love So Soft” singer then opens up about how tough life can be, and that even though you might feel defeated you should always search for the light at the end of the tunnel, and this song, is basically describing that journey.
“I think that it’s important to have at the end, even though you’re having a hard time, it’s important for me personally to have that light at the end of the tunnel in these songs,” she said. “‘I Don’t Think About You’ is basically saying, just so you know that I was wrecked of it, and that did deter me for a minute, but I always continued my path, and I always continued to do what I love, and you didn’t stop me. Like you didn’t break me, you might’ve come close, but you didn’t break me. I think that’s really important. I think that happens a lot. It’s a really cool song, so I really hope you all like it.”
We knew the lyrics were strong and empowering, but now that Clarkson has unveiled what it means to her, it is so much more intense and powerful.
