Matt Czuchry has been on successful TV series after successful TV series, beginning with Gilmore Girls, and most recently with The Good Wife, and his newest show is already on track to be a big hit, too.
Czuchry’s latest venture, The Resident focuses on pulling the curtain back on what it’s like to really work in a hospital, and though its getting a lot of positive feedback, there have been a few challenges for the actor now that he’s playing Dr. Conrad Hawkins.
“There have been plenty of new challenges, yes. Certainly, the medical scenes stand out as some of the most challenging work on the performance side of things,” Czuchry told DA MAN magazine about working on the show, which premiered in January 2018.
The Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life actor admitted that learning all the doctor jargon and medical techniques was made even harder by the pace of the show and the intelligent landscape that it all fits into.
“When you combine the medical dialog with the fast pace of the show, the medical actions within the scene, the choreography, the intentions, the behavior… it becomes a very complex puzzle for your brain, especially not being a doctor, to try and unravel,” he explained. “And hopefully, the magic trick is that the audience does not see the work at all. They just believe in what they are seeing.”
The fans seem to be believing what they are seeing as of now, and that’s partially due to Czuchry’s portrayal of the rough-around-the-edges, and not-so conventional Dr. Hawkins. Here’s hoping we get even more of The Resident for seasons to come.
The Resident airs Mondays at 9 a.m. on FOX.
