In case you missed it, pilot season is currently underway at all of the TV studios, and Fox has found a lead for one of its many potential series for the 2018-2019 season.
TV Line reports that the network has officially cast the lead role for the upcoming pilot, Mixtape, with La La Land alum Callie Hernandez. Mixtape is a musically-fueled drama, being written by Josh Safran, who previously worked on Smash, and based on her other roles, Hernandez should excel in this one.
Mixtape will center around a group on interconnected people who are living in Los Angeles and will be seen through a lens of the music that defines each of their personalities, TV Line reports. Hernandez is set to play Nellie on the pilot, an artist who has put her own aspirations on hold while working at an arts college and focusing on her relationship with an up-and-coming musician.
If you don’t remember Hernandez from La La Land, she was one of Emma Stone’s character Mia’s roommates. Yes, one of the beautiful ladies who sang in bright dresses and tried to get her to go out and live it up in Los Angeles.
Hernandez most recently starred in Epix’s Graves, and is actually a musician herself, so you know she can pull off the musical aspect of this drama. If the pilot does get picked up, she will be acting alongside Revenge alum Madeleine Stowe, who is set to play Margot, an actress that is her careful not to reveal all of herself to the world, and exhausts herself in the process of being perfect.
