Fox is bringing Janina Gavankar back to TV!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gavankar has landed the lead role on Fox’s untitled Erin Foster comedy pilot for the 2018-2019 season. Even though the pilot doesn’t have a name just yet, we do know what it’ll be about and who Gavankar will be portraying on screen.
Based loosely on Foster’s life, the yet-to-be-greenlit series will follow Andi (played by Foster), who is a single 30-something woman who refuses to settle down, and her father, played by Don Johnson, who is a total playboy. Andi’s world takes a dramatic turn when she finds out that her father is in love with her best friend (played by Gavankar).
As for Gavankar’s character Sasha, THR describes her as a “smart, funny” woman who is Andi’s absolute best friend. The two tell each other everything, although Sasha has left out the fact that she’s now dating Andi’s father.
This comedy is definitely a change for Gavankar, who we last saw on TV as the newer character of Diana Thomas on Fox’s Sleepy Hollow in 2017. She’s had quite a career on television starring on The Mysteries of Laura, The League, and of course as Luna Garza on True Blood.
Even though she’s been focused on films and voicing video games over the last year, we are happy to see Gavankar back on the small screen and taking on a comedy pilot this season.
