Sorry to break it to you, Grey’s Anatomy fans, but Sarah Drew is exiting the series, and we’re shook.

On Thursday (March 8), Deadline reported that both Drew and Jessica Capshaw are leaving Grey’s Anatomy at the end of its current season (Season 14). After the news of her departure broke, Drew, who plays Dr. April Kepner, took to social media to share her thoughts on the subject.

“Thank you so much for your beautiful words @shondarhimes . I’m beyond grateful to you for all that you’ve given me over the past 9 years. This has been an unforgettable ride,” Drew wrote after Grey’s creator Shonda Rhimes shared a sweet message on Twitter thanking both actresses for being part of the medical drama for so many years.

On Instagram the actress wrote a longer message to her fans saying that she was sad about the news and hasn’t really had time to process the information, but “for now, I’d like to say: I love you, and I love April, and her story isn’t over yet.”

Drew joined the Grey’s Anatomy cast during its sixth season back in 2009, and ever since she first stepped into Seattle Grace — now Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital — fans have loved her.

Over the years Grey’s fans have said goodbye to a lot of great characters, but at least when it comes to Drew (and Capshaw), they can better prepare for a farewell, as the actresses should be around for a few more episodes this season.

The only silver lining is that Grey’s itself hasn’t been canceled, and Ellen Pompeo is game for at least two more seasons, so the show itself doesn’t seem to be in any danger of ending right now.

Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
